Dr. Chang has been on the civil and environmental engineering faculty of this University since 1967; he is also a registered civil engineer in the State of California. Dr. Chang has taught 17 different courses at this University. In recent years, he has had the following courses: E 120 Engineering Problem Analysis; CE 444 Applied Hydraulics; CE 495 Civil Engineering Design; CE 530 Open Channel Hydraulics; CE 638 Sedimentation and River Engineering.

His research is in the area of water resources engineering pertaining to river hydraulics, sedimentation and erosion. He has published over 100 refereed papers in journals and conference proceedings. He has developed major computer programs. Among them, the FLUVIAL-12 program for river sedimentation was evaluated by the National Academy of Sciences as a national standard for river engineering. This program is now used worldwide by professionals to simulate channel-bed scour for the design of channels and hydraulic structures such as bridges and levees. Dr. Chang is the author of the textbook Fluvial Processes in River Engineering, by John Wiley & Sons, 1988, 432 pages. This book is also adopted as a graduate text at other institutions

Among the professional activities, he have taught short courses on river and sedimentation engineering, hydrology for flood control, and the use of the HEC-2 and Fluvial programs. I have also served as a consultant for consulting firms, local, state and federal governmental agencies, and the United Nations.
