Colin McKenzie received his Ph.D. in Economics and Econometrics from the Australian National University in 1987. His research interests include the estimation and specification of econometric models, the Japanese economy, and the deregulation of financial markets.

Colin McKenzie's teaching experience includes stints at the Australian National University, Columbia University, the London School of Economics, Melbourne University, Stanford University and the University of Western Australia. In addition, he has spent research time at the Bank of Japan, the Economic Planning Agency (Japan), Kyoto University and Yale University.

Colin McKenzie has published about 35 publications, most of them appearing in peer-reviewed journals including Econometric Reviews, the Economic Journal, the Japanese Economic Review, the Journal of Time Series Analysis, and the Review of Economics and Statistics. He is currently Associate Editor of Environmental Modelling and Software, the Japanese Economic Review and the Journal of Economic Surveys, and is also an active member of a Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (Japan) study group on personal financial services in an era of a rapidly changing payments system.

Currently, Colin McKenzie is an Associate Professor with the Osaka School of Public Policy (OSIPP), Osaka University in Osaka, Japan, and was the first foreigner to be granted tenure at Osaka University.
